28 August, 2017President Mustafa Akıncı has sent letters to the presidents of member countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), where the TRNC is an observer member, requesting support for the efforts to lift the embargoes on the TRNC and end its isolation.
In his letters, President Akıncı informed the presidents about the current situation on the island following the Cyprus Conference in Crans-Montana last July, and asked the OIC member states to support the TRNC’s efforts to end the unfair isolations imposed on Turkish Cypriots, who have clearly demonstrated their will to reach a settlement.
He also stressed that since he took on the role of President, the Turkish Cypriot side has always shown a constructive and result-oriented attitude in the Cyprus talks, and explained in detail the reasons why the Cyprus conference in Crans-Montana failed.
He also noted that in the 2004 referendum, 76 percent of Greek Cypriots voted against the UN solution plan and added that the Greek Cypriot leader did not show the necessary political will during the Crans-Montana summit.
