30 November, 2018Minister of Economy and Energy Özdil Nami attended the 34th OIC Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) meeting in İstanbul.
34th Ministerial Session of the COMCEC meeting entitled “Facilitation of Trade: “Risk Management in Customs” was held under the presidency of the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Speaking at the COMCEC Ministerial Session, Nami called the COMCEC member states to deepen their economic relations with the TRNC.
Nami, who conveyed a summary of the development of the Cyprus negotiations, stressed that the United Nations need to show will for a timetable and solution-oriented negotiation process that will change the current status quo. Nami requested the COMCEC member countries to support this issue.
Nami also touched upon the issue of natural gas and stated that the energy issue should be structured in a manner to protect the legitimate rights and interests of the related parties. In contrast, he indicated that unilateral steps could lead to undesirable tensions in the region, adding that the Turkish Cypriot side continues to be ready for cooperation with the Greek Cypriot side and other interested parties.
