8 March, 2019Vice President of the TRNC Assembly Zorlu Tore stressed that the sole security and guarantee of the Turkish Cypriots who were attacked in Cyprus are Turkey and the presence of the Turkish Army.
In his written statement, Töre evaluated the statement of the UK Prime Minister Theresa May after her meeting with the Greek Cypriot Administration Leader Nikos Anastasiades : “if the parties do not want it, they (UK) are ready to withdraw from the guarantorship”
Töre said : in a way Theresa May confessed that she did not understand the genocide faced by the Turkish Cypriots by saying that there would be no need for guarantees in a solution which will be reached.
Stating that these approaches of the UK and Greece are not binding both Turkish Cypriots and Turkey, Töre said: “The guarantee of Turkey is a taboo for us. We do not trust the guarantee of the UK and Greece. The reason for our lack of trust is due to the historical sufferings we experienced.”
