7 June, 2021Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu made statements about the Cyprus issue in his article published in the French newspaper L’Opinion.
Stating that the disputes experienced with Greece in the Eastern Mediterranean were discussed with a calm dialogue with Athens within the framework of various mechanisms, Çavuşoğlu said that Turkey has never had expansionist goals and that the dialogue with Greece is a confirmation of this.
Expressing that Turkey would support the efforts of the Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots in the event that they agree on the objectives of the negotiation within the context of the Cyprus issue, Minister Çavuşoğlu pointed out that, taking the failures of previous initiatives into consideration, a solution can only be reached on the basis of equal sovereignty and equal international status.
