26 December, 2022Turkish Cypriot fighters who were martyred during the years of National Struggle for existence in the Larnaka district were commemorated with a ceremony on Friday (23rd December).
TRNC President Ersin Tatar, Speaker of the Assembly Zorlu Töre, Security Forces Commander Major General Zorlu Topaloğlu, regional schools, citizens and relatives of martyrs attended the ceremony at the Larnaka Martyrs Monument located in İskele.
In his speech at the ceremony, President Ersin Tatar stated that the Greek Cypriots committed massacres on the island in order to implement the Akritas Plan and to turn Cyprus into a Hellenic island.
“We established our own state with the spirit of resistance that we had shown during those times to defend ourselves in order to survive. The TRNC was established under very difficult conditions, and by paying a very high price” said President Tatar.
