President Tatar to attend the 16th Summit of Economic Cooperation Organization in Tashkent

President Ersin Tatar is going to attend 16th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.

President Tatar departed for Uzbekistan yesterday evening to attend the ECO meeting, of which the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is an observer member.

Addressing a press conference at Ercan International Airport before his departure for Uzbekistan, Tatar noted that the Economic Cooperation Organization is an international organization founded in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey and that the number of its members has reached to 10 with the participation of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan.

Stating that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is also an observer member, President Ersin Tatar said that the Turkish Cypriot people continue to struggle to take part in every platform in order to make their voice heard and to develop all kinds of relations.

Expressing that they want to make use of every opportunity for this, President Tatar pointed to the importance of the Economic Cooperation Organization, which represents a population of over 500 million.

Furthermore, adding that there will not be an agreement on a federal basis in Cyprus, Tatar noted that politics has changed and that there can now be an agreement on the basis of two states in Cyprus.
