30 January, 2025The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’s Fourth Five-Year Development Plan (2025-2029) was introduced at a meeting held yesterday (29 January 2025).
The plan aims to enhance the country’s economic, social, and cultural development while improving the well-being of the Turkish Cypriot people.
The meeting was attended by President Ersin Tatar, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, ministers, MPs and state bureaucrats.
In his speech, President Tatar stated that the growth plan would help the TRNC become as a separate state and support Turkish Cypriot’s independence struggle. He also expressed gratitude to those involved in the preparation of the plan.
During the meeting, Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz remarked, “The growth plan will lay a strong foundation for our cooperation and for improving the welfare of Turkish Cypriots.”
He noted that the TRNC economy is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 5 percent in the 2025-2029 period. Yılmaz also stated that per capita income is projected to reach 19 thousand 115 USD by the end of the plan in 2029.
Yılmaz emphasized that the main vision is to create a competitive TRNC with high-added-value output that ensuring consistent and strong growth. He reiterated that Türkiye will continue to support a solution on two sovereign states.
Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel described the plan as a historic milestone, stressing that it is not just an economic strategy but a vision for the future of the TRNC. Üstel highlighted the critical role of Türkiye’s support, stating that the plan focuses on building a strong economy, a sustainable environment, and a socially cohesive society.
