Işıksal calls for full OIC membership for the TRNC

The Special Advisor to the President on International Relations and Diplomacy, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Işıksal addressed the two-day international conference titled “Islamophobia in Focus: Unveiling Bias, Shattering Stigmas”, held on 26-27 May in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Scholars from nearly 40 countries, experts from international organizations, religious leaders and representatives of non-governmental organizations attended the event.

During his speech at the conference, Prof. Dr. Işıksal drew attention to the struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people. He emphasized that fundamental human rights—such as freedom of movement, direct trade, and participation in international sports and cultural events—should not be politicized.

He also outlined the Turkish Cypriot side’s new political vision which is based on sovereign equality and equal international status.

He underlined that the TRNC is a fully functioning democratic state with all its institutions and is ready to integrate with the world in every field.

Finally, Işıksal reiterated his call for the TRNC to be granted full membership in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
