30 May, 2016In his speech at the opening of the 7th Lefke Walnut Festival, President Mustafa Akıncı said that Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Anastasiades should know that if he returns to the negotiation table, he will not accept any other condition except the framework of 11th February 2014 Joint Statement. Adding that they as the Turkish Cypriot side act according to the Joint Statement but if the Greek Cypriot side prefers to waste the work conducted in 2016 to reach a settlement, they should be aware of the fact that they will make the separation permanent.
Stressing that 2016 is a very important year for a solution, President Akıncı said that if Anastasiades ceases his impulsive behaviour and works with us to reach a settlement, we will not have any problem but if he continues his impulsive behaviour to make the infrastructure of 2018 Presidential elections to be held in South Cyprus, we will have difficulties.
Furthermore, Akıncı said that his statements should not be considered as “blaming”, and the realities should not be concealed.
