Özersay: “The UN will not pull a rabbit out of the hat with the Cyprus report”

5 October, 2018President Mustafa Akıncı met with the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres at the UN Headquarters in New York in order to evaluate the Cyprus problem.
Secretary General Guterres met with the Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiades and President Mustafa Akıncı separately.
Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Kudret Özersay also participated in the meeting.
President Akıncı said that the positive stance carried out by the Turkish Cypriots in all processes of finding a solution to the Cyprus problem have been recognised and confirmed by the UN Secretary General.
President Akıncı said that the Greek Cypriot side, which insists on open ended negotiations, actually insists on un-solution.
Akıncı said that a result oriented and strategic agreement package based on a calendar should be aimed for and added that nothing could be achieved with the contrary attitude.
Akıncı indicated that the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres announced that his temporary envoy Jane Holl Lute’s Cyprus report is not ready yet and Guterres will have a dialogue with both sides after this report is presented to him.
