President Mustafa Akıncı, Speaker of the Assembly Sibel Siber and Prime Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün met with the Ambassador of the Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation, the President of the Forum, Elşad İskandarov and General Director, Elmaddin Mehdiyev, respectively.
No statement was made after President Mustafa Akıncı’s meeting.
During her speech at the reception in the Assembly Hall of Honour, Sibel Siber praised the organisation’s friendship and cooperation with the TRNC. Stating that the Turkish Cypriot people need to have a greater presence and be more active in the international arena, Siber said that she is optimistic that the embargoes will be lifted once others get to know more about the people, culture and democracy of life on the island. Finally, Siber thanked the forum for their mutual initiative, as well as the Forum’s cooperation and understanding.
Furthermore, President of the Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation, Elşad İskandarov said in his speech that young people from the TRNC will now participate in more activities as a result of the cooperation.
Prime Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün spoke after the meeting, stressing the importance of the relationship between the TRNC and the Organization for Islamic Cooperation. He also referred to the TRNC’s observer membership, which, he emphasized, is an important milestone for the TRNC. Özgürgün also welcomed the work done to achieve both participation in the forum and membership with the Islamic Cooperation Organization Forum.
