12 more martyrs from a total of 89 who were buried in mass graves were laid to rest at the Muratağa-Sandallar Cemetery with a military ceremony after identification by the Committee on Missing Persons.

With yesterday’s burials (6th September), the number of martyrs who have been identified and buried among the martyrs of Muratağa and Sandallar has reached 20.

In his speech at the ceremony President Mustafa Akıncı reminded that 126 people, the majority of which were women and children, were barbarously and mercilessly killed in Muratağa, Sandallar and Atlılar and this can only be called a “massacre”.

Furthermore, Akıncı stressed that it was important to derive lessons from the past and to leave a safe future for the next generations, adding that Turkish Cypriots who have rights on this island as much as Greek Cypriots should seek a safer world in peace while building their future
