The Turkish Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hami Aksoy said that non-solution of the Cyprus problem was due to refusal of the Greek Cypriot side to share political power with the Turkish Cypriots. Aksoy added that they expressed this view at every opportunity they found.
In his press conference, Aksoy evaluated the developments on the Cyprus problem. Aksoy said “Within this context, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu received the UN Secretary General’s Special Temporary Envoy Jane Holl Lute twice and he told Lute that the Cyprus problem can only be solved with a settlement that takes the realities on the island as a basis and which includes achievable goals”. The Spokesman stressed “We do not start to negotiate to just talk. We do not want to waste the next 50 years talking”.
