Those Turkish Cypriots who were martyred by the Greek Cypriots in Beyarmudu during the Greek Cypriots campaign to annex Cyprus to Greece (ENOSIS), were commemorated with a ceremony held yesterday.
President Ersin Tatar also attended the ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, Beyarmudu Mayor Bülent Bebek stated that the 6 martyrs who had been massacred by the Greek Cypriots in the region during the said campaign would not be forgotten and emphasised the importance of conveying their story to future generations.
In his speech, President Tatar noted that the martyrs left behind a legacy of an independent State with territory, a Republic and a people in peace and freedom in TRNC.
Emphasising that the injustices done to Turkish Cypriots could not be accepted, Tatar pointed out that Turkish Cypriots are as sovereign and legitimate as Greek Cypriots.
