2 June, 2017Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has stated that the negotiation process has stalled due to the unacceptable preconditions of the Greek Cypriots.
The Speaker of the Assembly Sibel Siber met with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, who visited the island to hold official meetings regarding the Cyprus talks. Çavuşoğlu stated that they discussed the current state of negotiations at the meeting, at which President Mustafa Akıncı, Negotiator Özdil Nami and the delegations were present. Government officials and leaders of the political parties represented in the TRNC Assembly also joined the meeting.
“We have discussed what will be our road map and the period ahead. I can gladly say that there is an agreement on the road map that we will follow. This is a sign of the determination of the President, the political parties and the negotiating team to protect the interests of the Turkish Cypriot people,” said Çavuşoğlu.
Stating that they have an objective point of view regarding the negotiation process, Çavuşoğlu said, “We support the process and the Turkish Cypriot people as Turkey. That’s why we are here at this critical stage.”
The Speaker of the Assembly Sibel Siber added that the Turkish Cypriot people have always sought a bi-zonal, bi-communal solution based on political equality. Reminding that these norms were also accepted by the UN, Siber said, “These are undeniable. I hope the world will also be aware of this truth.”
