25 September, 2019Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu came face to face in New York with the Greek Cypriot Administration Foreign Minister Nikos Hristodoulidis, who brought up the subject of a federation in Cyprus.
Çavuşoğlu responded : “Your leader rejected this. We must first decide what we will negotiate. What will we negotiate, two governments, or something else?”
Upon this response Hristodoulidis explained the following: “It is clear on what we will negotiate. There is only one solution, a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation. Forget two governments or a confederation”.
Çavuşoğlu replied : “Last time, at Crans-Montana, your leader put forth the confederation. Last year Anastasiades said, at times “federation” and at other times a “confederation”. We must first openly discuss what we will negotiate. We have always been the side for years which tried to find a solution, both with the Annan Plan and at Crans-Montana”.
