28 July, 2016Cem Karabay has succeeded in his bid to enter the Guinness Book of World Records for staying underwater for the longest continuous time.
Regarded as the first Turkish underwater sportsman, Cem Karabay broke his own record for the fourth time by staying underwater for 142 hours 42 minutes and 42 seconds on the 42nd anniversary of the 20 July Peace and Freedom Day. He has now received the official certificate from the Guinness World Record Referee.
In a statement Karabay said, “I have been training really hard for a long time now and it looks like it’s paid off. I’m proud that I broke the record and that I could do so here in the TRNC.”
Karabay also set three world records in 2009, 2011 and 2015.
