14 August, 2018European Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality Vera Jourova, noted that citizenships (gold passport) given in exchange for investments will be inspected with strict measures in terms of money laundering and corruption in the 8 EU member states such as Malta and the Greek Cypriot Administration of South Cyprus.
In an interview in the Financial Times, Jourova stated that people suspected of corruption and money laundering should not be granted citizenship in EU member states, adding that they have no power to ban the citizenships granted by member states.
