Anastasiades asks Eide to put down on paper the convergences and mutual understandings

9 June, 2016Received by President Mustafa Akıncı yesterday, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide stated that a constructive and comprehensive meeting was held with President Akıncı and the Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiades respectively. Eide said that he observed both leaders are decisive in finding a solution to the Cyprus problem in 2016, adding that both leaders also agreed that there is no more time to be lost and the next weeks should be planned in the most efficient manner.
Stating that in today’s meeting he will assess the current situation in negotiations in general and what has been achieved in the last year, Eide said that undecided issues should be determined in order to discuss them at the highest level.
Indicating that plenty of progress has been reached at the negotiations, however more work needs to be done, Eide said that the Leaders clearly reflected their determination for a solution, they have a document consisting of hundreds of pages and convergences are written in black.
