14 February, 2019Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman met with the Turkish Cypriots living in Ankara. During the meeting held at the Grand Ankara Hotel, Prime Minister Erhürman informed the Turkish Cypriots living in Ankara about the latest developments of the Cyprus problem and also the developments in the TRNC. Erhürman wanted the support of the Turkish Cypriots living abroad for investment and lobbying.
Erhürman said that as the government, they will work to reach a fair settlement which protects the rights of the Turkish Cypriots, for the social and economic development of the country and to make the TRNC visible in the international arena. Adding that the Turkish Cypriot side is against the resumption of the negotiations from scratch, Erhürman said “If there is will, we can sit at the negotiation table for a result oriented solution process which is not open ended.”
Stressing that the Turkish Cypriot side has no toleration for loss of time any more, Erhürman said that if the sides sit at the negotiation table, the process should be under the UN umbrella, on the basis of political equality, within a timeframe and result oriented.
