Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman yesterday made a statement to the press following his weekly routine meeting with President Mustafa Akıncı and stated that the first item on their agenda was the latest developments regarding the Cyprus issue and the latest statements made by Anastasiades and emphasised that his statements are not very promising in terms of the process.

Stating that the Cyprus problem, which did not start today but years ago, has a history and a framework, Erhürman said that the framework shows them what they discuss and what they do not discuss from now on.

Pointing out that from time to time the Greek Cypriot leader has talked about a loose federation and a decentralized federation on different occasions, Erhürman said: “This isn’t a subject that the Turkish Cypriot side will not discuss. This is a change in the Greek Cypriot side’s position.”

Emphasizing that decentralization, thus transferring some powers to the constituent states, and in return diluting the political equality, are out of question, Erhürman said that such an approach was not acceptable and added that Anastasiades must understand this as soon as possible.
