10 April, 2023In his written statement, Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu remarked to the inconsistency and contradiction of the EU maintaining an office with diplomatic immunity in the TRNC, which it does not recognise, and said: “TRNC-EU relations and the diplomatic status of the EU Office in our country should be reviewed”.
Ertuğruloğlu criticized the latest statements made by Foreign Minister of the Greek Cypriot Administration Konstantinos Kombos, who admitted that they were taking advantage of their EU membership to prevent efforts increase the visibility of the TRNC in the international arena, to raise its status and to attempt for political recognition.
Ertuğruloğlu also underlined the statement of Kombos that he said: “As part of the efforts, we use the EU as an interlocutor in political dialogue, trade agreements or at another level, as it has a wide range of relations with many countries involved in or affected by the TRNC upgrading efforts.
They give great importance to their relations with the EU, and we are constantly trying to block some of the efforts made by the Turkish Cypriot side through the EU. We do not advertise the preventive measures we take”.
