12 February, 2024Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu has come together with members of the press in Ankara, and made statements regarding his visit and answered questions on the agenda.
Ertuğruloğlu said: “We do not have any expectations from the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy, Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar… She does not know the Cyprus problem anyway, but hopefully she will be able to determine exactly what the problem is from the contacts she will make within these six months.”
During his visits to Türkiye, Ertuğruloğlu had talks with the Vice President of Republic of Türkiye Cevdet Yılmaz, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Minister of National Defence Yaşar Güler.
Expressing that there is a search to explore whether or not common ground exists between the two sides for the commencement of formal negotiations, Ertuğruloğlu said, “The reason for this search is to wear down the stance of the Turkish Cypriot side and to shake our confidence.”
Expressing that Cuellar and the UN Security Council members demanded such a mission in order to achieve the success of their own policies, Ertuğruloğlu stressed that as long as the Greek Cypriot side is treated as a “State” by the UN, there can be no “common ground” and no positive results can be obtained from the negotiation process.
