9 December, 2024In an interview with the TRT/Azerbaijan website, Cavanşir Feyziyev, the Chairman of the Azerbaijan-TRNC Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group made statements on the inter-parliamentary friendship relations between Azerbaijan and the TRNC.
Feyziyev said: “We call on the Central Asian Turkic states to establish relations with the TRNC and provide political and moral support to our compatriots living on the island.”
Regarding the future of TRNC-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary friendship relations, Feyziyev reminded that on 5 April 2024, the Milli Mejlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan adopted a decision to establish an Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group with the TRNC, and stated that the delegations of both parliaments have been on mutual visits since then.
Feyziyev also added: “Our aim is to revitalise political-economic and cultural-humanitarian relations between our countries and create new mutual cooperation relations. The TRNC, which today is officially recognised only by Türkiye, needs political, economic and moral support. The establishment of the Inter-Parliamentary Working Group was born out of this necessity, and we are trying to provide this support to our Turkish Cypriot compatriots within our authority”.
Feyziyev further stressed that the establishment of political, economic and cultural relations between all independent Turkic states and the TRNC can make a great contribution to the removal of the international isolation of the TRNC and the international recognition of its independence.
