Foreign Minister Ertuğruloğlu: “Cyprus issue has been resolved”

Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu stated that negotiations on the Cyprus issue would not produce any meaningful outcome, adding: “The Cyprus issue has been resolved. The current situation is a ‘de facto’ solution. As long as the Greek Cypriot side continues to be recognized as the so-called “Republic of Cyprus”, no solution other than the current status quo is possible.

 Minister Ertuğruloğlu received a delegation participating in the ‘Mediterranean Peace and Diplomacy Forum’ hosted by Bahçeşehir Cyprus University under the theme ‘Same Roots, Toward a Common Future’.

The delegation, headed by Bahçeşehir Cyprus University Rector Mehmet Toycan, included politicians, parliamentarians, academics, and opinion leaders from Iraq, Azerbaijan, Syria, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Western Thrace, Gagauzia, Bulgaria, and Southern Azerbaijan.

 Briefing the delegation on the Cyprus issue, Minister Ertuğruloğlu stated: “Cyprus is the cause of the Turkish nation. We have a Motherland to which we owe our deepest gratitude. Our strength is equal to the strength of our Motherland.”

Reaffirming the Turkish Cypriot side’s determination to safeguard the state, Ertuğruloğlu stated: “We will protect our state, we will move forward together with our motherland Türkiye”. He stressed that there would be no retreat from the two-state solution policy based on sovereign equality.

 He further expressed that negotiations on the Cyprus issue would not yield results and that a partnership with the Greek Cypriot side is no longer a viable option.
