Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu stated that Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar, the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General on Cyprus failed to maintain her impartiality.

Minister Ertuğruloğlu made evaluations regarding the agenda on a television programme.

Pointing out that Holguin was not appointed as a mediator and reminding that her mandate is to determine whether or not there is common ground between the sides to start a new negotiation process, Foreign Minister Ertuğruloğlu said that Holguin failed to maintain her impartiality. Ertuğruloğlu added that Holguin knew nothing about the Cyprus issue and that her advice ‘put pressure on your leaders’ was beyond the limits of her mandate.
