Foreign Minister Ertuğruloğlu meets with OIC Secretary-General Ahmed

Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu met yesterday (27/09/2026) with Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the Turkish House in New York on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.

Minister Ertuğruloğlu congratulated Secretary-General Ahmed on assuming his new position and expressed his hope for continued close cooperation between the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the OIC.

Noting that the TRNC, as an observer member, actively participates in high-level meetings and events organized by the OIC and has hosted various OIC events in the past, Minister Ertuğruloğlu stated that the TRNC stands ready to host an OIC event in the coming period.

He stressed that further strengthening relations with the OIC Secretariat and its member states remains a priority for the TRNC, and underscored the importance of OIC support in addressing what he described as the unjust and inhumane isolation imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people for many years.

Ertuğruloğlu also briefed Secretary-General Ahmed on the Cyprus issue from a historical perspective and provided information on the common Cyprus policy pursued with the Republic of Türkiye.
