Founding President Denktaş remembered

TRNC Founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş was remembered on the 13th anniversary of his death.

A ceremony was held at the mausoleum of Founding President Denktaş in Lefkoşa.

President Ersin Tatar, Parliamentary Speaker Ziya Öztürkler, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, Chief Justice Betan Özerdağ, second President Mehmet Ali Talat, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Lefkoşa Yasin Ekrem Serim, the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces Major General Sebahattin Kılınç, the Security Forces Commander Major General İlker Görgülü, Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Leader Tufan Erhürman, Deputy Prime Minister, Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Minister Fikri Ataoğlu, Public Works and Transport Minister Erhan Arıklı, some ministers and MPs, Lefkoşa Turkish Municipality (LTB) Mayor Mehmet Harmancı, and representatives of civil society attended the ceremony.

After signing the special memorial book, President Ersin Tatar gave a speech to mark the anniversary.

In his speech, President Tatar paid tribute to the late founding president Denktaş, saying that Denktaş had devoted his entire life to the freedom and independence of the Turkish Cypriot people.
