According to the news of Greek Cypriot daily Simerini, a reliable source in Washington is of opinion that the appointment of Doherty as the US ambassador to South Cyprus will have difficulty due to not giving a satisfactory answer to the question related to the ‘Turkish invasion and occupation in Cyprus’ asked by Menendez.As required by the regulation of US Senate, a Senate member can indefinitely freeze an appointment made by US President.
It was stated that Doherty avoided answering the question as ‘Can I have the guaranty that in the future you will never say that there is no invasion in Cyprus’ asked by Menendez.
