25 December, 2018Turkish Presidential Spokesman İbrahim Kalın yesterday made a statement regarding the decision of withdrawal of US troops from Syria. In his statement, he also touched upon the Cyprus problem. In the Eastern Mediterranean, “We have not allowed the creation of actual situations that violate our rights arising from international law so far, and we will also not allow in the future.” Kalın said.
“We want to announce once more to all sides. Our aim is to make the Eastern Mediterranean the sea of peace, and to provide the sharing of the natural resources to be explored among both the Turkish Cypriot side and the Greek Cypriot side, also the neighbouring countries Egypt, Lebanon and Turkey in a fair way. Our aim is also to provide these resources as a factor of sharing and wealth, not as a factor of tension. We do not want to experience any tension in the Eastern Mediterranean. If any steps which violate our law are taken, we will react”.
