Johnson: “After many decades of paralysis we might be seeing a solution”
17 January, 2017Five-Party Conference continues in Mont Pèlerin
18 January, 2017Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey Numan Kurtulmuş has made the following statement in a live broadcast to AA regarding the Cyprus negotiations in Geneva:
“Revealing an unacceptable map at the last minute, and also leaking this to the press after it was submitted to the UN, cannot be tolerated by Turkey. It was agreed that both sides’ maps would not be revealed. A fait accompli policy has been carried out here and Turkey will not accept this.”
Kurtulmş stated that from the beginning, Turkey has always supported a solution in Cyprus.
“We have some red-lines in the Cyprus negotiations. Turkey will never make a concession on territory. The other important point is Turkey’s guarantee. The biggest guarantor in the formation of a bi-zonal Cyprus is the existence of Turkey. Turkey will never give up on this right. Negotiations are continuing with this in mind. However, we will never leave the negotiating table with concessions that cannot be accepted.”
