6 October, 2017Ambassador Hüseyin Müftüoğlu, the spokesman of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, stated that the TRNC authorities would give the necessary response to the Greek Cypriot government’s letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, which – according to Müftüoğlu – has no validity with regards to Turkey.
In his written statement, Müftüoğlu stated that the Greek Cypriot representative in New York had issued a letter to the UN Secretary-General on 3 October which has been published as UN Security Council document “S / 2017/831”:
“It is well known that we do not recognise the Greek Cypriot administration therefore the aforementioned letter has no importance or validity with regards to our country.
The unfounded claims in the letter are not worthy of attention. Opinions expressed in the letter relating to the island, however, will be responded to by the real and only collocutor of the Greek Cypriot side – the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.”
