Özdenefe attends First Informal Meeting of Speakers of TURKPA Member Parliaments

Deputy Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly, Fazilet Özdenefe, attended the First Informal Meeting of Speakers of TURKPA Member Parliaments, hosted by the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye in Istanbul.

According to a statement issued by the Assembly, Özdenefe, in her address, reiterated the expectation of full membership, stating that the TRNC’s status within the Organization of Turkic States and TURKPA should be further. She noted that such a step would enhance the international visibility of the Turkish Cypriot community while also strengthing cooperation among member states in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Özdenefe also called for support to enhance the TRNC’s visibility on international parliamentary platforms, and sought closes cooperation to ensure more effective representation, particularly regarding observer membership of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Economic Cooperation Organization (PAECO), the activities of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), and other international areas.

Concluding her remarks, Özdenefe stated that strengthening solidarity among Turkic states would contribute to regional peace and stability, and expressed her hope that cooperation would continue to grow.
