Prime Minister Erhürman in Ankara
13 February, 2019President Akıncı informed the Council of Ministers on the latest developments in the Cyprus problem
13 February, 2019Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Kudret Özersay said that Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiades’ statement regarding political equality is very important in terms of showing that the Greek Cypriot side does not acknowledge even the most basic parameter of a federal partnership.
In his written statement, Özersay evaluated the statements of Anastasiades made last Sunday (10th February, 2019). Özersay said: “An understanding that tries to explain the political equality as an inequality according to themselves does not pertain only to Mr. Anastasiades but it is the understanding of all previous Greek Cypriot leaders. Up to today, I have been at the same negotiation table with 5 different Greek Cypriot leaders and I have not seen any different approach. Therefore, if someone says that we should wait for another Greek Cypriot President for a federal partnership, this will not be a realistic approach”.
Özersay added that he did not make this statement in the name of the government but indicated that this is his own observation and evaluation as a person who has taken place academically and actively in the Cyprus negotiation process for the last 20 years.
