29 July, 2016Prime Minister Özgürgün: “Solution target for the end of 2016 should not be put away”
2 August, 2016Prime Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün stated that his government takes all intelligence about the activities of the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) in the TRNC very seriously.
In his interview with AA, Prime Minister Özgürgün assessed the measures taken against the FETO in the TRNC, following the coup attempt in Turkey on 15 July, and in the context of the negotiations. The Prime Minister stated that the TRNC included the FETO on its list of terrorist groups on 21 July and that all its activities are illegal.
He added: “I am in constant contact with our police and security forces. I am given all available intelligence that we have. So far, we do not have any concrete information about any activity of the FETO on our national territory.”
The Prime Minister also commented on the state of the negotiation process. He reiterated his hope for a solution and said: “Both sides should accept the principles of the UN parameters. As long as we all agree on the equal status of the two constituent states – the equality of both sides, bizonality and guarantees – then we will be very close to a solution in Cyprus.”
