Ertuğruloğlu: “Greek Cypriot administration’s efforts to join NATO are a dream”
30 March, 2026President Tufan Erhürman issued a statement via social media addressing three separate matters: the planned visit to Hala Sultan Tekke, the Kiracıköy–Eylence connection, and the leaders’ meeting.
Regarding the planned group visit to Hala Sultan Tekke in Larnaca on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, President Erhürman emphasized that the repeated postponement and restriction of the visit on invalid grounds is unacceptable.
He noted that this situation is known to United Nations (UN) officials and stated that the matter will be brought to the attention of all levels of the international community.
On the issue of the Kiracıköy–Eylence crossing, Erhürman underlined that proposals put forward by the Turkish Cypriot side were rejected.
He added that this has been communicated to UN and European Union (EU) officials, as well as to ambassadors involved in the process. He stressed that attempts by the Greek Cypriot leadership to shift responsibility onto the Turkish Cypriot side through the media do not reflect reality.
Erhürman further stated that the Turkish Cypriot side has no economic, military, or political motives regarding crossing points, emphasizing that their sole objective is to facilitate daily life for both communities and to enhance contact and mutual trust.
