18 April, 2022President Ersin Tatar and the Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Anastasiades participated in the launch of the action plan, which was prepared to ensure the effective participation of women in a possible reconciliation process.
The launch event, hosted by the Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus Colin Stewart, at the UN headquarters located at the old Nicosia Airport in the UN controlled buffer zone was attended by President Tatar and Greek Cypriot Leader Anastasiades, as well as the Special Representative Ergün Olgun, Greek Cypriot Negotiator Andreas Mavroyannis and the co-chairs and members of the Bilateral Gender Equality Technical Committee that prepared the action plan.
Representatives of women’s non-governmental organizations from both sides, who responded positively to the call to present their views and recommendations, also attended the launch event online, following the adoption of the action plan prepared for the active participation of women in a possible reconciliation process. Some representatives of diplomatic missions also attended the event online.
The event started with the speech of the UN Special Representative Colin Stewart and followed by presentations of the co-chairs of the bi-communal committee about the work of the committee as well as the joint action plan.
