President Tatar departs for Azerbaijan

President Ersin Tatar departed yesterday for Azerbaijan to attend a three-day informal summit of the Heads of the State of Organization of Turkic States (OTS) upon the invitation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Speaking at a press conference before his departure from Ercan Airport, President Tatar stated that advancing the status of the TRNC as an observer member in OTS is the priority target of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Emphasizing the importance of the summit, President Tatar thanked the Organization of Turkic States for its support to the TRNC and reiterated that the TRNC was accepted under its constitutional name for the first time in an international organization. Tatar stated that this is important for supporting the two-state policy and expressed that the TRNC is represented at every level at OTS.

Tatar underlined the importance of sovereign equality and equal international status for the reconciliation, peace, and harmony of the two communities in Cyprus.

President Tatar is accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu, Presidential Undersecretary Okan Donangil, Special Representative of the President Güneş Onar and Special Advisor of the President Gökhan Güler.
