President Ersin Tatar issued a message on the occasion of Çanakkale Victory and 18 March Martyrs’ Day.
In his message, President Tatar noted that Çanakkale Victory changed the world’s history and became a source of inspiration for the struggle for freedom and independence of the Turkish Cypriots.
Adding that after the great struggle of the Turkish Cypriots, our aim is to reach a fair and permanent solution in Cyprus, Tatar stressed that the negotiation process which started in 1968 to reach a federal settlement has failed due to the uncompromising attitude of the Greek Cypriots, especially the Annan Plan referendum and the Crans Montana negotiations have revealed that a federal-based agreement is not possible.
Reminding that they put on the negotiating table the solution proposals based on the existence of two separate sovereign equal states that will benefit Cyprus and the region in Geneva for the first time, Tatar noted that our calls to the Greek Cypriot side for dialogue continue and we expect Greek Cypriot side responds positively to our calls.
