26 January, 2024President Ersin Tatar reacted to Irfan Sidddiq, the British High Commissioner to Southern Cyprus, who claimed that ‘the TRNC will never be recognised’ and noted that Siddiq has no right to interfere in the internal affairs of the TRNC in any way, and said “Turkish nation stands behind us.”
President Tatar made statements to Anadolu Agency’s correspondent.
Tatar emphasized that Siddiq is in no position to give advice or counsel to the Turkish Cypriots and the TRNC leadership.
Pointing out that Sıddık’s statements are aimed to upset the balances in the Eastern Mediterranean in favour of the UK, Tatar noted that Siddiq has no right to interfere in the internal affairs of the TRNC in any way, and said “There will be no turning back on the federation issue, and the TRNC will continue to exist forever as a Turkish state in the Blue Homeland of the Eastern Mediterranean forever, and no one can prevent this”.
He reiterated that the prerequisites for commencing negotiations with Southern Cyprus are sovereign equality and equal international status.
