President Ersin Tatar received Maria Angela Holguín Cuéllar, Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General, at the Presidency yesterday (13/05/2024).

The tete-a-tete meeting at the Presidency lasted approximately 20 minutes. Following the meeting, the President made a statement to the press.

President Tatar stated in their previous meetings with Cuellar that they could start the negotiation process provided that the sovereign equality of the Turkish Cypriot side was recognized and the embargoes imposed on Turkish Cypriots were lifted. The President also conveyed to Holguin that there could be no opening regarding these issues.

“We expressed our view that if there cannot be an opening on these issues, we cannot take the dialogue further. Cuellar accepted this with understanding. If there is no common ground, there is no future for this dialogue,” President Tatar added.
