President Ersin Tatar issued a message on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Erenköy Resistance.
President Tatar said “The resistance will always be remembered in our history of struggle.”
Tatar emphasized that the Turkish Cypriot people will not abandon their state, sovereignty and freedom and will not be a minority of the Greek Cypriots.
“Our people will not forget the 13 martyrs buried in the Erenköy Martyrs’ Cemetery, and will not allow their legacy to be trampled upon” President Tatar said in his message.
President Ersin Tatar stated that the 60th anniversary of the Erenköy Resistance, which Turkish Cypriots refer to as their ‘Çanakkale Epic,’ was being proudly celebrated with a sense of responsibility to history.
Noting that hundreds of Turkish Cypriot youths, who save up their education in the middle of their studies to defend their homeland and pursue an honourable life, resisted to the death against the Greek attacks which were reinforced by the Greek regiment, and initiated with the aim of ENOSIS, Tatar stressed that a great victory was achieved in Erenköy.
