
President Tatar meets with ECO Secretary-General Ambassador Khan

President Tatar makes a statement following his meeting with Holguin
8 July, 2025President Ersin Tatar, stated that they expect the international community to take the necessary steps to end the restrictions imposed on the fundamental human rights of the Turkish Cypriot people, who continue to live under isolation.
“In this era of communication, we expect concrete steps from ECO member states of which we have been a part for more than 30 years, to support the TRNC,” Tatar said.
President Tatar delivered a speech during the 17th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), held in the city of Khankendi, Azerbaijan. Tatar extended his gratitude to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and ECO Secretary General Ambassador Asad Majeed Khan.
Emphasizing that the TRNC is fully committed to the goals of ECO Vision 2035, Tatar stated that the TRNC has been participating in the organization’s activities since 1992 and has been actively contributing to its work since obtaining observer status in 2012.
Tatar underlined that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is ready for sustainable development and climate compatible economic cooperation, noting that the TRNC can enhance ECO’s potential through its unique location in the Eastern Mediterranean, its new, fully equipped Ercan Airport with an annual passenger capacity of over 10 million, its seaports and its potential as a regional logistics hub.
