The US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs to visit Cyprus
12 July, 2016Akıncı: “We will continue to do what is necessary to correctly inform the public about the negotiation process”
12 July, 2016Presidential Spokesperson Barış Burcu has stated that there has been some unfounded speculation relating to citizenship ratios.
Responding to the speculation, Burcu stated that “the reality is that anyone who has acquired citizenship – from either side – before today will automatically become citizens of the united Federal Republic of Cyprus. Depriving any citizen of this common right is out of the question.”
Burcu continued, “Both sides have shared information and figures with one another relating to citizenship under the auspices of the United Nations. As a result, it has been determined that 220,000 TRNC citizens and 802,000 citizens of the Greek Cypriot Administration will automatically become citizens of the united Federal Cyprus without requiring the fulfilment of any further criteria. A consensus has been reached regarding this issue.”
