1 March, 2018President Akıncı: “If the negotiation process is restarted, it will be very different from the past”
2 March, 2018Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman has stated that the leader of the Greek Cypriot Administration Nikos Anastasiades has put a wedge in the Cyprus negotiations process.
President Mustafa Akıncı and the Prime Minister discussed both domestic and foreign issues at their weekly meeting, which took place at the Presidential Palace.
In a short statement to reporters after the meeting, Erhürman said that he and the President had discussed the latest statements made by Anastasiades.
“It’s not possible to accept Greek Cypriot leader Anastasiades’ declarations – they are not constructive. His statement that the current conditions are not conducive for the negotiations to continue is a clear indication that there has been no change in his stance. We shall continue to evaluate developments together with the President. But I can clearly say that Anastasiades has stuck a wedge in the Cyprus talks” he said.
On the opening of the Aplıc and Derinya crossing points, the Prime Minister said that he shared the President’s view that there was a need for coordination between their respective offices.
Asked about the process of Maronites’ returning to their villages, Erhürman said that the President’s office and the Prime Ministry was continuing to coordinate on the issue.
