National Unity Party (UBP) Gazimağusa Deputy PACE Delegation President Hamza Ersan Saner and CTP Güzelyurt Deputy Armağan Candan attended the General Council meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) held in Strasbourg, France between the dates of 30 September and 4 October 2019.

Saner gave a speech during the meeting, with the newly appointed Secretary General Marija Buric, at the General Assembly.  Stating that the Council of Europe should take action in areas where there are unresolved conflicts, such as our country, Saner stressed that the Council is obliged to protect the human rights of all those living in Europe without exception.

Stating that Turkish Cypriots feel the effects of non-settlement in their daily lives, Saner emphasized that political, cultural and economic isolation affects every area of life.

Saner also said that it is unacceptable that the Turkish Cypriots were excluded from international mechanisms, even on an important issue such as human rights, adding that Turkish Cypriots are ready to cooperate with the monitoring mechanism of the Council of Europe.

Saner mentioned that despite the 50th anniversary of bi-communal negotiations, the isolations imposed on the Turkish Cypriots is no longer acceptable and this is also a violation of human rights.
