Foreign Minister Ertuğruloğlu meets with TURPKA Secretary-General Er
21 July, 2025President Ersin Tatar held a press conference at Türkevi in New York following the expanded 5+1 informal meeting on the Cyprus issue hosted by the United Nations.
President Ersin Tatar stated that at the 5+1 informal Cyprus conference, they presented a total of six new cooperation proposals and added that the works will soon begin on four initiatives.
He noted that the initiative to open four new crossing points would be one of the most concrete steps to improve the daily lives of the two peoples on the island. Tatar said, “However, unfortunately, this could not be implemented. Mr. Christodoulides did not keep his promise regarding the proposal for two new crossing points.”
President Tatar emphasized his determination to make progress on the confidence-building measures agreed upon at the informal conference in March. However, he noted that some developments due to the Southern Cyprus, especially concerning property matters, have damaged this atmosphere.
“If a new and official negotiation process is to begin, it must be grounded in the realities on the ground and conducted with fairness, equality, and respect for both sides,” he stated.
