The body of 28-year-old Turkish Cypriot mountaineer Birkan Uzun, who lost his life in a ski accident in the United States (USA), was brought to the TRNC yesterday evening (9th October 2022).
Uzun’s body was welcomed by his family, President Ersin Tatar, and his friends.
Uzun will be buried in Lefkoşa Cemetery, with a funeral ceremony to be held by the TRNC Presidency today (10th January 2022), after the noon prayer to be held at Güzelyurt Fatih Mosque.
Uzun, 28, living in Seattle, Washington state of America and originally from Güzelyurt, reached the summit of Mount Vinson, the highest point of Antarctica with an altitude of 4,892 meters, on 16th December 2021, and waved the TRNC flag.
Mount Vinson was Uzun’s fifth peak of which set out with the goal of ” 7 continents and 7 summits.
Uzun, who was born in Gazimağusa in 1993, has been living in the USA since 2011.
