10 August, 2016The 52nd anniversary of the Erenköy Resistance, and the martyrs who lost their lives, has been commemorated in a ceremony in Erenköy.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Mustafa Akıncı emphasized that the Erenköy Resistance played an important role in the Turkish Cypriot people’s struggle for a free and equal life on the Island.
The future should be built upon lessons from the past, Akıncı noted, in order to prevent the same things occurring again.
Akıncı also stated that the Turkish Cypriot people wanted a solution for the Island that would preserve their security, political equality and freedom, as well as maintaining Turkey’s guarantee.
