President Mustafa Akıncı stated that Turkish Cypriot side is not searching for an interim agreement to the Cyprus problem.
In his statement to the press following the Leaders’ meeting, President Akıncı stressed that both sides had discussed the issue of federal powers. He added that the negotiators would come together on Monday and Wednesday to discuss in more detail the issues taken up during the last three meetings.
President Akıncı said that the negotiations would continue as previously scheduled, with the next meeting to be held on the 13 October.
In response to an interim agreement which has appeared in Greek Cypriot newspapers, President Akıncı said that “there is no desire or intention to sign an interim agreement. Turkish Cypriot side remains faithful to the 11 February agreement signed between the two sides”.
Akıncı also added that Turkish Cypriot side is aiming for a comprehensive settlement and is faithful to the concept of an overall solution.
Depending on the progress of the Cyprus negotiations, a referendum could be held in mid-2017.
